WASHINGTON (AP) - The National Weather Service says the snow storm that buried the Mid-Atlantic region brought Washington Dulles International Airport its ninth biggest one-day snowfall on record.
Meteorologist Heather Sheffield says Dulles got 11.7 inches on Thursday alone. That broke the record for that date and ranks among the ten biggest daily snowfalls ever recorded at the airport near Sterling, Va. The previous record of 3 inches for the date was set in 1992.
The weather service says the storm overall dropped 13.3 inches of snow at Dulles from Wednesday through Thursday.
The weather service says trained spotters reported storm totals of up to 26 inches in Baltimore County, Md., but those numbers haven't been officially verified.
