WASHINGTON (AP) - District of Columbia transportation officials will be providing residents with an update on the new streetcar that's expected to begin operating next summer.
The district's Department of Transportation will hold its quarterly update meeting Thursday evening at Spingarn High School.
Transportation officials recently announced that they have agreed to purchase two trolleys from an Oregon firm.
The city bought its first three streetcars from the Czech Republic.
The initial, 2-mile trolley line will run along H Street Northeast corridor, which in recent years has become a nightlife hub.
Transportation officials are planning a 37-mile streetcar network connecting areas of the city that are isolated from public transit.
At the meeting, officials plan to present their conceptual plan for connecting the streetcar to Union Station.
