(WJLA) - On Thursday, the Palisades Parade in Northwest is the place to be seen - especially if you're a D.C. politician running for office.
All mayoral candidates were there: David Catania, Carol Schwartz, and Muriel Bowser - along with former Mayor Tony Williams who has endorsed her.
But it was about more than politics on this Fourth of July -- it was about community.
Parades are so popular in this town that the Capitol Hill neighborhood in Southeast started one of their own called the Barracks Row Parade. It's also about community (and lots of candy!) for them.
And just across the Anacostia River from this parade, we found picnickers who had reserved a spot after getting up early in the morning. Cooking hamburgers and hot dogs, it was a day for relaxing and waiting for the fireworks.
For others, it was a great day for a carnival - the D.C. Fair in a parking lot of RFK Stadium was a place for kids to ride rides and take a peek at real lions and tigers.
