D.C. makes list of nation's worst cities for parking

(WJLA) - Washington, D.C. ranks among the worst cities in the nation for parking, according to a new list released this week by financial website presented its list of the 10 worst U.S. cities, based on the cities' high parking costs and high vehicle theft rates.

The district came in seventh on the list for several reasons, including a high number of parking tickets given by police.

"D.C. officers are avid ticketers, as the city collected $92.6 million in parking fines in 2011," NerdWallet wrote.

The article mentions average parking in the district is around $19 a day, and $270 a month.

For each of the 10 worst cities on the list,'s article also gives tips on how to ease parking woes.

For D.C., it mentions that the city is served by the ParkMobile Android app as well as Parking Panda.

"You can also search for spots and lots on Best Parking," the article said,. "The city provides a map of garages online, and the site DC Parking helps people learn more about the best places to park in different neighborhoods in the city."

When it comes to vehicle thefts, NerdWallet reported that Washington, D.C. has 60.17 percent more motor vehicle thefts per capita than the national average.
