D.C. hyperthermia alert issued by government

A hyperthermia alert has been issued in the District of Columbia.

The government of D.C. issued the alert because the heat index in Washington reached 95 degrees on Tuesday.

Hyperthermia is a condition in which the body produces more heat than it can release, which could lead to a dangerous elevation in body temperature.

Symptoms of hyperthermia can include dry skin, dehydration or signs of heat exhaustion.
