      D.C. area guide to Fourth of July fireworks, parades, events

      WASHINGTON (WTOP/WJLA) -- As massive crowds celebrate America's 238th birthday on the National Mall, D.C. and Park Police are manning security check points, command centers and even lookout towers.

      In addition to the festivities on the National Mall, you can pick from dozens of picnics, parades and fireworks planned this July 4. Here's our guide to what's going on around the D.C. area:

      D.C.

      National Mall
      Fireworks will be launched from the Reflecting Pool at 9:10 p.m. The display will last 17 minutes.

      Viewing areas near the mall include: U.S. Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, National Mall between 14th Street and 3rd Street*, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, The White House Ellipse, West Potomac Park, East Potomac Park, Anacostia Park, U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial (Virginia) and George Washington Memorial Parkway (Virginia).
