      D.C. ambulances: Aluminum signs were temporarily installed, now being removed

      According to a Wednesday press release from the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice, aluminum signs that were temporarily installed in some FEMS ambulances are being removed.{ }

      These signs served as heat shields when the July heat wave caused air-conditioning failures. According to Deputy Mayor Paul Quander:

      “But the official that it was brought to did not take immediate action."

      The MPD has confirmed that the ambulances that caught smoke and fire on Tuesday did not have these signs in their engine compartments.

      As of late Wednesday, four ambulances had been found to have these shields installed, and two of them are already back in service after the new aluminum was safely installed.
