Cristian Gutierrez, San Miguel volunteer, arrested on child pornography charges

WASHINGTON (WJLA) - A school volunteer has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography. The news came as a shock to those at San Miguel Charter School, which serves at-risk Latino children.

Cristian Gutierrez, 21, was taken into custody at his apartment on Otis Place NW Friday morning after police allegedly found hundreds upon hundreds of child porn videos on his computer.

Agents were seen walking out of{ }Gutierrez’s apartment with box loads of computer equipment. Neighbors were shocked.

“People want to make sure their families are safe,” says Antoine, a neighbor. “It is too serious of a charge to take lightly.”

During a three-month investigation, court documents reveal a federal agent discovered{ }Gutierrez{ }had “downloaded 76 videos depicting child pornography… showing prepubescent males engaging in sexual activity…”

When police executed a search warrant Friday, court documents also reveal{ }investigators found a laptop computer in{ }Gutierrez’s bedroom on which they found about 2,000 suspected child pornography videos.{ }Gutierrez initially denied, but eventually admitted he downloaded the videos.

Residents tell ABC7 the all-male school for at-risk Latino children was highly regarded in the neighborhood. In 2009, the school made headlines when singing superstars Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony paid the students a visit. In light of the new allegations, residents expressed concerns.

“They have to monitor it better than that, I feel, especially for the kids to be safe,” says Greg Taylor. “You never know who your kids are around.”

Gutierrez will be in court on Saturday.
