Rainy weather conditions may have contributed to an accident that seriously injured a driver when a tree plunged onto their car in Beltsville.

A 40-something-year-old man suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. He is hospitalized at a local trauma center.

The vehicle was traveling in the 4200 block of Sellman Road just after 9 a.m. Thursday when it happened. Prince George’s County fire officials say a tree uprooted from the wet and soft ground and toppled onto the front end of a car, pinning the driver inside, as it was driving by.

A crew removed the fallen tree from the scene, and cut down another unstable tree as well.
