A Mayday alarm was sounded when three firefighters were trapped while battling a fire in the basement of a house in Congress Heights Friday morning.
A woman who lives in the house got out okay along with her dog, but everything she owned is gone. And all of the firefighters got out.
One firefighter was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation. A woman who lives next door was also taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Fire officials say the fire broke out before 8 a.m. Friday morning in the 700 block of Congress Street SE.

Crews stayed at the scene for several hours putting out hot spots while investigators searched for a cause.
It took 160 firefighters to put out the blaze.
