CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. (WJLA) - A dead body found early Tuesday morning in Capitol Heights remains a mystery, for the time being.
Valencia During, who lives on Dent Road - the street on which the body was found - says the morning has certainly been an unusual one.
During said she was awakened suddenly around 5:45 a.m. when her son's dog began barking.
"That alarmed everyone in the house," she said.
Things quickly went from odd to disturbing, During said, as Prince George's County police officers began swarming the area after a resident called about a body spotted along the 4000 block.
"It's not every day that you will wake up and see a dead body laying on your street. So yeah, I have some concerns about that," During added.
Police say the body is that of an adult male. The cause of death is not yet known, and officers say they haven't yet determined whether the man died where he was found or somewhere else.
Fellow neighbor David Tubbs was outside just a couple of hours before the gruesome discovery was made.
"When I walked my friend to the car, we didn't hear it or see anything," he said.
Tubbs calls the find a grisly one, but not a surprising one.
"[It's sort of] normal, you know - like, every once in a while something like this will happen," he said.
Another 40-year resident of the neighborhood said, though, it's enough to send her packing.
"It just makes me want to move a little faster," she said.
Police say they still have a lot of unanswered questions about the body and situation, and ask that anyone who thinks they may have any information to call the department.
