Columbus Day weekend closures planned

If you're trying to get around D.C. this weekend, pack some patience and prepare for some delays.

Planning to head to downtown D.C. this Columbus Day weekend? Be prepared for road and Metro closures ahead of several big events planned in the area.

Among the events are a series of “Occupy Wall Street” protests, the 2011 Army Ten-Miler and the Taste of DC.

Major roads like Constitution and Pennsylvania avenues will be shut down through out the next two days. All lanes on Route 110 and Boundary Channel Drive will be closed from 5:30 in the morning until 1:30 Sunday afternoon. Drivers should also look out for rolling shutdowns on Arlington Memorial Bridge.

In addition, Metro will be conducting track work. Starting 10 p.m. Friday, three Metro stations – Shaw, U Street and Columbia Heights – on the Green and Yellow lines will be closed as crews work to complete track repairs recommended by the National Transportation Safety Board. Normal service will resume Tuesday morning.

Metro says buses will replace trains on portions of the Green, Yellow and Orange lines. Riders are advised to add about 30 minutes to{ }their commute time.
