A portion of a park in Northeast D.C. will soon become a continuing homage to the Godfather of Go-Go.
D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray announced Tuesday that he has proposed to rename a portion of Langdon Park as "Chuck Brown Park." Gray's proposal, which is officially titled the "Chuck Brown Park Designation Act of 2012," would put Brown's name on the western end of the park.
"Chuck Brown, Go-Go music and the District of Columbia are inextricably linked to each other, and it's appropriate that the 'Godfather of Go-Go' should be honored by the city that embraced him and his music," Gray said in a statement.
The portion of the park that will eventually bear Brown's name sits between 18th and 20th streets Northeast in D.C.'s Langdon neighborhood.
"We pray the park will be a place where all people can come together to celebrate the things that were most important to Chuck and his fans: family, life, peace and love," the Brown family said in a statement.
