Chuck Brown has pneumonia, family says

Brown has been hospitalized for the past two months.

UPDATE: This is a story published several weeks prior to Chuck Brown's passing. Here's an updated story on the death of the musical legend.

The "Godfather of Go-Go" has pneumonia, his family tells the Washington Post.

The Post reports that Chuck Brown, long considered the pioneer of go-go music in the nation's capital, has been hospitalized with pneumonia for the past two months.

According to a family member who spoke to the newspaper, Brown contracted the ailment after an operation to remove a blood clot from his body.

A recent Twitter rumor that Brown, 75, had died at a D.C. area hospital was quickly debunked by his family and Brown's spokespeople.

Credited as the man who invented the Go-Go genre, Brown's 1970 hit, "Bustin' Loose," hit #1 on the MCA charts. The song was later sampled in the 2002 Nelly song, "Hot in Herre."
