Christopher Deedy, State Dept. special agent from Va., indicted in Hawaii murder

KANEOHE, Hawaii (AP) - A State Department special agent who was in Hawaii for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit has been indicted on a second-degree murder charge, accused of shooting a man at a Waikiki McDonald's restaurant.

A funeral was also held Wednesday for the 23-year-old shooting victim, Kollin Elderts. Many of the mourners at a Windward Oahu chapel wore black and purple shirts bearing Elderts' picture.

Agent Christopher Deedy is expected to appear in Honolulu District Court Thursday. The 27-year-old from Arlington, Va., posted $250,000 bond and was released two days after the Nov. 5 shooting.

Police say Elderts, Deedy and two other men were involved in an argument when the shooting occurred. Deedy was arrested at the restaurant. Police said a knife was recovered at the scene.
