Child care costs in half of states more than rent

A new report finds that in almost half of all states, the cost for center-based child care is more than annual median rent payments.

The report from "Child Care Aware of America" ranks Maryland as the 23rd least affordable state to raise an infant in a child care center.

It says the annual cost of having an infant is about 12 percent of a two-person family's median income. Virginia is tied for 27th on that list with Missouri at 11.6 percent of a family's median income.
