D.C. can be a great place to spend the summer, with plenty of fun activities taking the area by storm. Here are 30 that you should check out.

1. D.C. Jazz Festival from now until June 18

The D.C. Jazz Festival brings an abundance of jazz performances to the District. See the complete schedule here.

2. Source Festival from now until July 2

See up-and-coming performers in action with Source Festival performances until July 2. The 10th annual showcasing includes 10-minutes plays, script workshops and the show "Perfect Arrangement". Tickets are $15 to $32.

3. Bethesda Summer Concert Series every Thursday until July 27

A variety of local bands will perform free concerts at Veterans Park in Bethesda every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Starting this Thursday, local restaurants and wineries will join in on the fun.

4. Golden Cinema outdoor movies every Friday until Aug. 4

Catch a free outdoor movie at Farragut Square starting at sunset. You can see the movie schedule here.

5. Jazz in the Garden every Friday until Aug. 25

Unwind from the week with a free jazz concert at the Sculpture Garden. The concerts are every Friday from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. until Aug. 25.

6. American Roots Music Concert Series every other Thursday until Sept. 28

Want to stop and smell the roses while exploring the roots of American music? Try the U.S. Botanic Garden's free summer concert series.

7. Taste of Reston Food Festival on Friday and Saturday

Taste of Reston will take over the Reston Town Center on Friday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday from noon 11 p.m. The popular food festival promises plenty of food, entertainment and fun for the whole family.

8. Around The World Cultural Food Festival on Saturday and Sunday

This annual festival offers the chance to expand your taste palette with plenty of delicacies along with entertainment in a cultural celebration. The free event takes place on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

9. Shocktop Summer Solstice Rooftop Party at CityBar on June 21

Enjoy drink specials and light-up bracelets to celebrate 2017's longest day. The celebration lasts from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on June 21.

10. A 'Game of Thrones' pop-up bar from June 21 to August 27

Take author George R.R. Martin's advice. The pop-up bar themed in honor of "Game of Thrones" opens on June 21 and will feature a drink menu in the show's honor. The special bar will last until Aug. 27.

11. Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle on June 24 and 25

Watch barbecue masters square off in six competitions -- and sample some of their work -- at the weekend festival. The event will take place on Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25.

12. Dulles Summer Fine Art Festival on June 24 and 25

From Saturday, June 24 to Sunday, June 25, you can peruse artwork and maybe even buy a piece on display at this festival in Dulles Town Center.

13. Pups in the Park: Washington Nationals vs. Cincinnati Reds on June 25

The Washington Nationals will fight for the District all summer long, hosting plenty of special events. But on June 25, you can bring your dog for a night of baseball.

14. Pups N' Pints on June 25

Enjoy a party with your pup and support the Humane rescue Alliance at Pups N' Pints at Barley Mac. For $13 to $15 a ticket, enjoy games, free doggie gear and drink specials.

15. 'The Little Mermaid' at Wolf Trap four nights in June and July

Disney's "The Little Mermaid" musical is coming to Wolf Trap for four performances, the first on June 29, so you can find out if life really is better under the sea. Tickets range from $25 to $90.

16. Smithsonian Folklife Festival from June 29 to July 9

Enjoy free concerts, circus performances, workshops and more at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. This year will celebrate identity and creativity in America to celebrate the festival's 50th anniversary.

17. We the Party People: JFK Centennial on July 1

Celebrate John F. Kennedy's 100th birthday at the National Museum of American History at an after-hours event from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. with speeches, relics from storage and 1960s-themed refreshments. Tickets are $45 to $65 and you must be 21 or older to attend the event, hosted by Brightest Young Things.

18. Red White & Brew Festival on July 1 and July 2

Kick off your Independence Day celebration with food, music and drinks at the Red White and Brew Festival by Drink the District at the Yards Park. Tickets are $50 and you must be 21 or older to go.

19. Hive Installation at the National Building Museum from July 4 to Sept. 4

Studio Gang will bring a "Hive" installation to the National Building Museum from July 4 to Sept. 4. The exhibit will feature concerts, tours and other events.

20. Capital Fringe Festival from July 6 to July 30

Check out a creative performance with the Capital Fringe Festival. The festival brings plenty of artistic events to the District throughout July.

21. Taco, Beer, Tequila Festival on July 15

Enjoy taco trucks and restaurants, craft beer, margarita bars and live entertainment at the Taco, Beer, Tequila Festival in Yards Park. Tickets are $45 to $75 and you must be 21 or older to attend.

22. Bastille Day celebration on July 15

Celebrate Bastille Day at the French Embassy with gumbo, drinks and dance music from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $115.

23. Artscape from July 21 to July 23

Head to Baltimore, Maryland for Artscape, the largest free arts festival in America, according to their website. You can enjoy shops, exhibits and an events schedule all showcasing American creativity.

24. 'La La Land' in Concert at Wolf Trap on Aug. 4

Relive the movie with live music by the National Symphony Orchestra at Wolf Trap on Aug. 4 at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 to $60.

25. OutWrite from Aug. 4 to Aug. 6

Listen to readings or enjoy a writing workshop at this free book festival celebrating LGBT writers.

26. Shakespeare Theater Company's Free For All from Aug. 15 to Aug. 27

The Shakespeare Theater Company offers a free performance of a Shakespeare classic every year. Get tickets and catch this year's performance, "Othello", from Aug. 15 to Aug. 27

27. Arlington County Fair from Aug. 16 to Aug. 20

Enjoy rides, exhibits, vendors and more at the Arlington County Fair. Head to the Thomas Jefferson Community Center in Arlington for four days of fun.

28. Comcast XFinity Outdoor Film Festival from Aug. 24 to Aug. 26

Relax with a free outdoor movie and other activities at the Strathmore for this film festival. Festivities will begin at 7:30 p.m.

29. 17th Street Festival on Aug. 26

Celebrate the community by Dupont Circle with vendors, artists, live music and more. The festival will last from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., and tickets are $10.

30. Maryland Renaissance Festival on weekends from Aug. 26 to Oct. 22

Explore castles in costume at the Maryland Renaissance Fair in Anne Arundel County. Tickets are $7 to $19 for the first half of the fair, but prices go up for visits on Sept. 16 or later.
