CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - A judge has dismissed charges against an Albemarle County businessman stemming from a wildfire that burned more than 800 acres.
Media outlets report that Albemarle County General District Court Judge William G. Barkley said Tuesday there was insufficient evidence to prove Alex Toomy set the Feb. 19 fire.
The fire began in the Ragged Mountain Farm subdivision. Fire officials say the fire got out of control and spread quickly because of high winds, humidity and dry conditions.
Tommy was charged with misdemeanor illegal burning and carelessly damaging property by fire.
He says he's glad the truth came out.
