Westfield finished the season 15-0. The Bulldogs beat Battlefield, Patriot, South Lakes and Woodbridge – all Northern Virginia high schools – in the playoffs prior to their win against Oscar Smith.

In its state championship game appearances during the last two seasons – both also for the 6A state title – Westfield also defeated Oscar Smith. The Bulldogs won 49-42 in 2015 and 34-28 in 2016 in those games.

The Bulldogs went 14-1 in 2015 and 13-2 in 2016.

Virginia’s highest classification is 6A.

Westfield and Oscar Smith were originally scheduled to play Saturday, but the game was postponed due to snow along with the five other VHSL state championship games.

Leesburg’s Tuscarora High School lost 40-27 to Highland Springs in the 5A title game, which also was played at Hampton University.
