(WJLA) - Firefighters from three states were called into put out a massive blaze that consumed a portion of a shopping center in Cecil County late Wednesday night.
The fire erupted at the Northeast Plaza Shopping Center in North East, Md. at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, authorities say. It took firefighters nearly 2 1/2 hours to contain the flames, which caused about $10 million dollars worth of damage.
Authorities from Cecil County, Harford County, Delaware and Pennsylvania all responded to the three-alarm fire, which authorities believe began in the rear storage area of a pizza restaurant. The fire and smoke the spread to nearby stores, causing damage to each of them.
In addition to the restaurant, damage was reported to a liquor store, a video game store, a bank, a hair salon, a sporting goods store and a drug store.
Officials do not yet know exactly what sparked the fire. Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are joining in the investigation.
