Cattle truck crash kills two in Va.; one seriously injured

CHURCHVILLE, Va. (AP) - State Police say two people were killed in Augusta County when a cattle truck crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a car head-on.

The collision occurred just before midnight Friday on Route 254 near Churchville. The driver and the passenger in the car were killed, while the driver of the cattle truck was hospitalized in Charlottesville with what police said were life-threatening injuries.

The dead were identified by state police as 52-year-old Galen W. Adkins and 70-year-old Roy J. Jackson. Both are from Augusta Springs.

The driver of the cattle truck was 70-year-old Murray E. Campbell of Greenville.

All the cattle being hauled by Campbell survived the crash.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
