The car that hit and killed a 64-year-old woman on Conneticut Avenue last week belongs to the embassy of Switzerland.
The driver, Kamal Mortada, had a cell phone or other electronic device with him at the time of the accident.
Trudi Rishikof was crossing in the crosswalk with the light when she was hit by the white SUV. Police documents show the Toyota highlander is registered to the embassy of Switzerland.
The report indicates that a cell phone or electronic device was present in the car when Mortada hit Rishikof. Rishikof died one day before her 65th birthday.
Police say Mortada is a U.S. citizen. As his home address, he gave the home of the Swiss ambassador. A spokesperson for the ambassador declined to be interviewed or answer questions about Mortada's position at the embassy.
"Since the inquiry into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing, we cannot make any further comments," the spokesman wrote in an email.
The incident remains under investigation. Police are waiting for the results of a urine test that could determine if alcohol was involved.
