Calvert superintendent clears record of kid who brought cap gun on bus
The Calvert County Public Schools superintendent has expunged the record of a young student who brought a cap gun on a school bus in May, SoMdNews.com reports.
The 5-year-old was suspended for 10 days after he showed off his orange-tipped toy gun to a friend on the ride to Dowell Elementary on May 22. After the family appealed the suspension, the boy’s punishment was reduced to three days.
An original request to have the incident wiped from the student’s record was denied. However, Superintendent Jack Smith said in a June 26 letter to Robin Ficker, who represents the boy and his family, said his decision to clear the student’s record was based on information from school officials and from the appeal filed by the boy’s family.
Ficker is also appealing the record of an Anne Arundel County boy who was suspended for chewing a breakfast pastry into the shape of a gun.
