BOWIE, Md. (WJLA) - A man was shot dead inside his Bowie home Thursday morning in what Prince George's County Police said was an apparent drug deal gone bad.

Neighbors of the victim, 39-year-old Amir Ali, said they awoke to gunshots coming from his home on the 9900 block of Chessington Way around 6 a.m. and called police.

Officers found Ali inside his house suffering from fatal gunshot wounds; he died at the scene.

Investigators believe Ali was shot by two men trying to rob him of drugs, said police spokeswoman Julie Parker. Officers were still searching for the pair on Thursday afternoon.

The neighborhood where the shooting occurred is an otherwise quiet, residential community of stately homes and well-maintained yards located just south of Charles H. Flowers High School.

Friends of Ali and his wife said they were "stunned" and "devastated" after hearing the news of his violent death.
