Bike lanes coming to stretch of Alexandria's King Street

(WJLA) - Bike lanes are coming to a stretch of King Street in Alexandria.

According to WTOP, 27 parking spaces will be removed from about a three-quarter mile stretch west of the Metro and Amtrak stations to accommodate the bike lanes.

The car lanes will be narrowed slightly.

Richard Baier, Alexandria's director of Transportation and Environmental Services, tells WTOP the bike lanes will make the road safer for everyone, including drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

The bike lanes will also offer a buffer for pedestrians on the sidewalk from cars, and drivers will still be allowed to stop to drop someone off or pick them up.
