(WJLA) - BGE customers in Maryland are about to pay more to keep the lights on.
The Baltimore Sun reports that Maryland regulators have approved the utility's second rate increase this year.
Customers will pay an average of $2.13 per month for electricity and an extra 76 cents per gas.
Regulators also approved a monthly surcharge that will begin at 8 cents per month and increase to 36 cents per month within five years.
BGE serves more than 1.24 million customers across Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Carroll, Harford, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George's counties, along with the city of Baltimore.
