The Maryland Natural Resources Police is investigating the slaying of a bald eagle in Cumberland Md.
The dead eagle was found at about 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 16 in the 14000 block of Hazen Road in Cumberland. Authorities said it appears that the eagle was killed by a gunshot.
The bald eagle is protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and Maryland state law prohibits hunting or killing bald eagles. Bald eagles were removed from the endangered species list in 2007.
