      "I am responsible for the money," says 7-Eleven store owner Weerasinghe Roy.

      Thursday morning, Roy walked out of his home with a pink, plastic bag filled with cash and checks to deposit from sales at the Glen Burnie store.{ }{ }

      When he got to his car, he noticed some trash in his driveway and placed the bag on the roof of his car.

      "I came back and drove off," Roy explains.

      Unbeknownst to him, the bag flew off the roof on Interstate 97, spilling cash onto the roadway at the Route 100 interchange. When he realized what happened several miles later, he doubled back and found a group of people looking for something along the side of the road.{ }

      "I asked them, 'What are you looking for?,' and they said, 'There is a pile of money here in the woods,' and I said, 'Really, that's my money'."

      He says one woman who picked up a $140 check and a $1 bill gave it to him.

      Police say another woman who was passing through the area at the time later turned in $40, mostly in $1 bills, she found trapped in one of her car's tire wells.

      But, the bag and the rest of what Roy says was a large sum of money remains missing.

      "I appreciate that if you come back and return the money back to me, because it devastated my family," he says.

      Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 410-761-5130.
