A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting captured on surveillance video in broad daylight in Southeast D.C. late last month.

D.C. police said Tuesday that 22-year-old Derrick Hart has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder while armed in the killing of 22-year-old Maleak Coffin.

Police say Coffin was found unconscious inside of a vehicle with a gunshot wound after members of the Seventh District responded to a reported shooting in the 2900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE at approximately 11:08 a.m. on Dec. 23. He was pronounced dead on Dec. 26 after succumbing to his injuries.

Police released surveillance video on Dec. 26 that allegedly shows Hart shooting Coffin before fleeing from the scene.

Hart, as well as Coffin, is from Southeast D.C.
