      Arlington's homeless population increases

      Arlington’s homeless population has increased this year, but it’s still lower than it was three years ago,{ }arlnow.com reports.

      The annual Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments reports the homeless count in Arlington increased from 451 in 2012 to 479 in 2013. During that time, the Washington region’s homeless population went down by 2.4 percent, led by a 22 percent drop in Alexandria, a 1 percent drop in Washington, and a 12 percent drop in Fairfax County.

      Arlington’s homeless population had actually decreased the past two years. This year, the city has the region’s second highest homelessness ratio -{ }2.2 homeless persons per 1,000 residents. There are 10.9 homeless persons per 1,000 residents in Washington.
