Arlington Police officer delivers baby girl during traffic stop
Talk about being in good hands: a local baby came into this world Wednesday night with the assistance of a police officer.
Arlington County Police Cpl. Steve Troyano was alerted to a woman in labor at a traffic stop in Arlington just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Once Cpl. Troyano got to the woman, he helped deliver a healthy baby girl.
While Troyano was at a traffic stop, the mother’s sister sought his assistance in the delivery of the baby in their nearby vehicle.
“When I realized I would be delivering the baby in the backseat, my instincts took over,” Troyano said.
A healthy 6 pound, 3 ounce baby girl was born in the vehicle and then transported to a local hospital with her mother. The baby will be using the middle name “Stephanie” in honor of Troyano, the family told Arlington County Police.
