Arlington is cracking down on dog owners who leave their pets tethered outside for too long, WAMU reports.

According to new regulations passed over the weekend by the Arlington County's Board of Supervisors, owners are only allowed to tie up their dogs outside for three hours.

The new rule also limits dogs from being tethered for more than 12 hours cumulatively over the course of a single day. Violators could be fined as much as $100.
