ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - Arlington County officials are considering whether to raise the basic taxi fare by 25 cents and add 50 cents for each passenger 12 or older.
The Washington Post reports that the fare hike would be the first since 2008. However, even with the increase, taxis in the county would be less expensive than almost everywhere else in the Washington region.
In return for the higher fare, cabs would be required to accept credit card payments by April 1, 2012.
Officials are planning Saturday to schedule a public hearing on the proposal.
Arlington County has 765 taxicabs, and about 9,000 taxi trips are made daily in the county.
