Apartments made of shipping containers going up near Catholic University

WASHINGTON (WJLA) - Old shipping containers will soon house some local college students in D.C. Some say it's a creative housing solution, while others call them eyesores.

As a shipping container was hoisted over the Brookland neighborhood in Northeast, neighbors talked with ABC 7 News.

Eighteen shipping containers will make up a four-story apartment building where a house once stood. The owners -- two Catholic University graduates -- found it was cheaper and faster to erect a building out of the 8x40 foot boxes than to build a brand new house.

Many neighbors were impressed with the idea, but not all of the feedback was positive. Some neighbors didn't want to speak on camera.

One neighbor described it as a home for a hamster. Another said it was just architecturally out of character for the neighborhood.
