An 18-month-old infant was critically injured in an Ocean City car crash on Friday in which police believe one of the drivers was high on drugs.

Authorities say the crash happened near the intersection of 142nd Street and Coastal Highway just after noon on Friday. An investigation revealed that a pickup truck, driven by 47-year-old Andre James Kaczynski, was speeding on Coastal Highway when it rear ended a two-door car that was stopped at a red light.

The car that was struck was occupied by a driver and the infant.

The collision sent the two cars about 100 feet from the intersection, at which time authorities say the truck caught fire. A person who witnessed the accident was able to remove Kaczynski from the truck, while first responders put the fire out and removed the driver and child, who were trapped in the car.

A Maryland State Police helicopter flew the infant to a Maryland shock trauma center and remains in critical condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

A search of the pickup truck revealed an amount of PCP, and field sobriety tests were given to Kaczynski.

He has been charged with possession and driving under the influence of drugs and is being held on $100,000 bond.
