WASHINGTON (WJLA) - Amir Brooks, the 17-year-old boy who crashed his dirt bike into a tree in Southeast Washington after being pursued by police Monday, has died.
Brooks' mother confirmed her son's death Wednesday morning. The teenager, who was not wearing a helmet Monday when he crashed, had been on life-support at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. His cousin, who was also riding the dirt bike with Brooks, remains hospitalized.
The police chase began in Prince George's County near Brooks' home in District Heights. Brooks fled from officers trying to pull him over and a chase ensued. The teen crossed into the District on Pennsylvania Avenue SE and crashed less than a mile later, losing control and running into a tree on Alabama Avenue SE.
