Amazon tax-free shopping in Maryland to end in 2014

(WJLA) - The days of tax-free shopping on Amazon in Maryland are coming to an end.

The Washington Business Journal reports that once a new Amazon fulfillment center opens in Baltimore, shoppers within the Free State will have to pay a 6 percent sales tax on all items ordered from the site.

Tax law requires that consumers pay sales tax on any items purchased from a company that has a physical presence in Maryland. That wasn't the case before plans to open an Amazon facility there.

Now, though, as the Business Journal reports, any order from Amazon in Maryland will come with the tax whether or not it actually ships from Baltimore.
