An Alexandria man was cited Monday for trying to bring a loaded handgun through a security checkpoint at Dulles International Airport.

The TSA stated the man, bound for Paris, tried to bring a loaded 9 mm Beretta handgun through security in his carry-on luggage.

The man was cited on a local weapons charge.

Firearms aren’t allowed in carry-on bags but are permitted in checked luggage if the weapon is unloaded, properly packed and declared to the airline.
