(WJLA) - Food truck vendors will now be allowed to operate within Alexandria City limits, but with limitations.
The Alexandria City Council voted Saturday to let food trucks have a 16-month tryout period starting on July 1, but the trucks will only be allowed on off-streets such as parks, parking lots, schools and driveways, according to the Washington Post. The trial period will end in October 2015.
Despite reaching a compromise, not all residents at Saturday's public hearing were happy with the outcome of the vote with some arguing that the trucks should not be allowed in historic districts or be allowed to compete with brick-and-mortar restaurants.
