Alexandria check cashing fraud suspect sought by police

Alexandria Police are trying to identify a man who is accused of walking into local banks to cash counterfeit checks.

Officials say the suspect walked into the United Bank branches at 301 S. Washington St. and 2300 Ninth St. on July 7 to cash the fake checks from a company based outside of the District of Columbia. He succeeded in cashing the check the first time, but was denied by the teller on his second attempt.

The suspect is a white man in his forties. He his about 5-foot-8 with a medium to heavy build. Police say he used a fake Maryland driver's license in both cases.
