FALLS CHURCH, Va. (WJLA) - A woman who paid nearly $20,000 to have a plumber install a new sewer line says it keeps backing up and flooding hew home with raw sewage. Unable to get the plumber to come back and fix the problem, Cathy Ramos turned to 7 On Your Side for help.
CW Fields dug up Ramos' old crumbling cast iron sewer line to install a new PVC line that was supposed to last for decades. But within one year, the new sewer line started backing up, flooding the house with raw sewage.
"This was just ridiculous to never know when your home is going to be backed up," Ramos says.
Time and again, Ramos had to pay hundreds of dollars for an emergency plumber to snake the line.
"This just isn't right," Ramos says. "After paying that much money, I should have a working system."
Ramos says CW Fields blamed her.
"'What kind of toilet paper were you using?' You know, this was silly stuff," she says. "CW Fields won't even answer my phone calls anymore."
Ramos says she didn't have another $5,000 to fix the problem on her own, so she called 7 On Your Side.
ABC7 asked Fairfax County's Department of Public Works to inspect the line with a camera. The county said the pipe installed by CW Fields was not lined up evenly to the county's pipe, causing the backup.
7 On Your Side took those results to CW Fields and the company is now promising to fix the problem for free.
"I had to do something, and my daughter beat me to it. She called Channel 7," Ramos says.
