(WJLA) - A 61-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a Montgomery County police cruiser in Maryland Tuesday night.
A Montgomery County police officer was responding to a domestic violence call around 10:54 p.m. near Chestnut Street and E Diamond Avenue in Gaithersburg when he struck a pedestrian in the roadway. The officer's vehicle lights and sirens were on at the time of the incident, according to police, and the man was not within the crosswalk when he was struck.
The 61-year-old African-American man was transported to a local hospital where he is currently in critical condition. The officer, a seven-year veteran, was not injured in the crash.
Neither the pedestrian's name or the name of the officer involved have been released.
Police are currently investigating to determine whether vehicle speed and the traffic signal cycle were factors in the crash.
