The strong current at Lake Anna in Louisa County may be to blame for the drowning death of a 6-year-old girl over the Memorial Day weekend.
WRIC-TV in Richmond reports that the young girl was playing near Dike 3 at Lake Anna when she fell in. Rescue crews recovered her body several hours later.
Louisa County Sheriff's officials say that the dangerous current at the lake likely sucked her to the bottom.
The girl's drowning was one of two deaths at area waterways over the holiday weekend. On Monday, a 15-year-old likely drowned while swimming in Rocky Gorge Reservoir in North Laurel.
