30,000 students expected to visit D.C. for STEM event in Washington, D.C. at the convention center (ABC7)

On Friday the three-day USA Science and Engineering Festival kicked off at the Convention Center in Northwest, Washington.

Before it closes its doors Friday, organizers say they expect around 350,000 visitors.

The festival, which is held every two years, is aimed at getting children interested in science.

Those who attend can check out exhibits and interactive displays on everything from space travel to electricity to robots.

On Friday tens of thousands of children from military families and area public schools came to the event.

The USA Science and Engineering Festival is free. It is open Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. This is the fourth time the festival has been held.
