4 people shot less than a mile from press conference by DC mayor, police on other shooting

Four people are injured after a drive-by shooting Wednesday morning in Southeast D.C., police say. The shooting occurred less than a mile away from a press conference being held by Mayor Muriel Bowser and MPD about another shooting in the community.

Police say a woman has the most serious injuries because of the shooting. Two of the others who are injured are men, according to authorities. Police say a fourth victim, who has not been identified, showed up at the hospital because of the shooting.

Officials say the shooting occurred at 1500 block of U Street SE and the call for help came in at 11:09 a.m.

At that time, Mayor Bowser and other officials were hosting a press conference less than a mile away to ask for help locating a suspect after 14-year-old Steven Slaughter was caught in crossfire and killed this past Sunday.
