21 rescued in Roanoke flash floods

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - Storms have caused flash floods in sections of Roanoke, requiring the rescue of more than two dozen people.

The stranded Wednesday included 21 from a daycare center. They were all taken to safety.

The Roanoke Times reports that a total of 28 people were rescued by a Roanoke Fire-EMS team after Peters Creek swelled over its banks.

They included 19 children and two adults from Rainbow Christian Learning Center.

Two women were also stranded in a car with water rising to their chins before rescue crews arrived in a raft.

Everyone escaped the waters without injury.
