12-year-old suspect robs man in Northeast Washington

Robbery isn't necessarily the most uncommon crime committed in the District of Columbia.

When a likely 12-year-old boy is the suspect, though, it's a different story.

It happened, though, on Wednesday afternoon on Eads Street Northeast, MPD officials say. In a tweet sent after the robbery was reported, MPD officials said that a robbery with a gun had been committed by a boy they believe to have been 12.

According to Peter Hermann of the Washington Post, the victim told authorities that the young man pointed a gun at him and tried to snatch his cell phone.

A D.C. police official told Hermann that, unfortunately, "it's not out of the norm" for younger suspects to be involved in these cases.
