The University of Maryland Medical Center will be sending layoff notices to employees at the end of the month, the Baltimore Sun reports.
Due to state and federal reimbursement cuts, the Medical Center is looking to reduce costs with layoffs, which may affect up to 12 of the other hospitals under the University of Maryland system.
Other hospitals throughout Maryland, including Meritus Health in Hagerstown and Anne Arundel Medical Center, are also reviewing their staff and looking to cut costs as a result of a 2 percent cut in Medicare payments brought on by federal sequestration.
The number of people who will lose their jobs at the University of Maryland Medical Center at the end of June is still unknown.
