(WJLA) - A new study funded by the American Beverage Association says that diet soda might actually help you lose weight.
In the study, 300 diet soda drinkers were put on diets and split into two groups; one group could keep drinking diet soda, and the other group had to quit.
Those who drank diet soda lost an average of four more pounds over 12 weeks than those who didn’t.
Researchers believe that those who quit may have felt deprived and made up for the diet soda by drinking or eating other things.
However, critics say that despite the weight loss claims, the study still doesn’t explore the long-term effects of artificial sweeteners.
