Diabetes Alert Day urges public awareness of disease
ARLINGTON, Va. (WJLA) –Tuesday was the annual American Diabetes Association Alert Day, which serves as a "wake-up call" for Americans to the potentially fatal disease.
With almost 30 million people dealing with diabetes in the country, it has become an epidemic.
The scariest part of the disease is that many are not aware they have it.
On Alert Day, the American Diabetes Association encourages everyone to take the Diabetes Risk Test which can be found online. The test helps people determine if they are at risk for developing Type Two Diabetes: http://www.diabetes.org/are-you-at-risk/alert-day/.
Also, a clinical trial in Hyattsville, Md., is evaluating whether a vitamin D supplement can help prevent type 2 diabetes. For more information and to see if you are eligible to join call 301-560-2935 or visit D2dStudy.org.
